Your partner may be telling you that abortion is the only option while you are still trying to understand what you want. You may feel caught between his wishes, your own feelings, and the fear of what could happen if you disagree.

You don’t have to have an immediate answer right now. Taking a step back can give you space to separate what you feel from what someone else wants for you.

Ridgeway Women’s Clinic provides a confidential, supportive place where you can ask questions, talk through your concerns, and get the information you need. Our free Options Consultation includes a pregnancy test, ultrasound, STI testing, and one-on-one options education with a nurse.

Ask Yourself What You Want

Your partner may have his own fears and concerns about the pregnancy. He may be worried about money, your relationship, becoming a parent, or how a baby could change your lives.

It can be helpful to listen to those concerns, but they do not have to determine what you want. Take some quiet time to think about how you actually feel about the pregnancy. You might ask yourself questions such as: What do I want right now? What would I need to feel supported if I continued the pregnancy? What information do I still need?

Giving yourself space to think can help you separate your own feelings from someone else’s expectations.

Your Safety Comes First

Pressure can sometimes go beyond a disagreement. If your partner is threatening you, intimidating you, controlling your choices, or making you afraid of what might happen if you disagree with him, your safety should come first.

You do not have to have a difficult conversation with your partner if you believe doing so could put you in danger. Please reach out to the National Domestic Violence Hotline by calling 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or texting START to 88788 if you feel unsafe.

Get the Knowledge You Need

It can be difficult to make a confident pregnancy decision when you are still missing important information.

A pregnancy test can confirm the presence of the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), but it cannot tell you how far along you are, where the pregnancy is located, or whether there is a fetal heartbeat. A limited ultrasound at our clinic will be able to give you these details.

Learning about all of your pregnancy options can also help ensure you’re making your own decision based on information rather than fear or pressure. These options include parenting, adoption, and abortion.

We can connect you with information about available support and resources if you choose to continue your pregnancy.

Healthy Support Is Available

You do not have to process everything by yourself. Consider talking with someone who will listen to you without trying to decide for you. This could be a trusted friend, family member, counselor, or one of our clinic nurses.

Healthy support should help you feel more informed and confident, not pressured. Ridgeway Women’s Clinic can provide a confidential place to ask questions and learn more about your pregnancy.
